Location
The Tropical Grasslands are located near the equator, between the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. This covers most of Africa but also part of Australia, South America, and India. The Tropical Grasslands are overall Dry for most of the year aside from the annual rainfall for a couple months. Impact from humans to the Food Web Hunting has always been a problem towards the impact to the Food web. From being hunted for meat and fur many types of animals are going endangered or extinct causing a change to the food web by having less animals to eat and interrupted the 'Flow' of the environment. Also with global warming it changes the usual habitat or temperature which can cause drought and fires since the area is so dry and hot. World Scale for The Tropical Grasslands This is The Tropical Grasslands on a World scale. Even though we are focusing on Africa, this shows that Africa is not the only place the biome is. Climate The climate is very dry and humid throughout the year with temperatures going up to almost 40 degrees celsius. The warmest months of the year is April, May, and June. Its the most humid throughout the months June, August, September. Since this biome is located near the equator it is hot throughout the year and does not usually dropping below 20 degrees celsius. Global warming is having a big affect on the tropical grasslands since they are losing the time period of rainfall causing a drought and loss of vegetation. Physical Features The soil has many pores that drain any water quickly. In the dry seasons the soil is very infertile and many of the small shrubs or grass die leaving less food for the animals to eat. The land is very dry, with large trees and grass in large volumes. Symbiosis The Oxpecker and Rhino live together in peace, with the Oxpecker living on the rhino. The Oxpecker eats the ticks on the Rhino, so not only do they get easy food, but the rhino stays free of any ticks. the Oxpeckers also warn the Rhino of any danger that may be approaching. This symbiosis relationship is called Mutualism. |
